Sorry folks...another day, another blog without any photos to back up all my trash talk about being in England. These will come. Cross my heart.
Putting aside the fact that obtaining cell phones was like experiencing a second labour, the good news is that we now have a method of communication. Scott's wielding some new fangled LG number that he hasn't stopped fiddling with since he purchased it, and I still have the crummy Nokia. In fairness this was a family decision based upon my propensity to destroy telecommunications devices and probably rightfully so. Anywho - we're now armed...and in my case, probably dangerous.
Jodie - suggestion was brilliant, went and took photos. So many photos. Alarming amounts of photos. I'm sure I will look back in 12 months and wonder why I was taking pictures of post boxes and squirrels but for now they're just darling.
Top Three Surprises
1) Friendly Brits - Perhaps there's something in the water here, or simply the post-Olympic glow but as we're walking around the streets and parks people are actually smiling and greeting us cheerfully...This leads me to only assume we have perhaps actually entered a Disney movie?
2) Mobile Phones - 3 trips to the shop, a passport, letter from the bank, credit checks and 5 hours of my life I will never get back. It's a cell phone people. We're not saving lives.
3) Stately Homes - sure I expected to see these, but I didn't expect to simply stumble upon places of national significance in the country side. After a few wrong turns we decided to follow a few signs and wound up at Stoneleigh Abbey. Google It. I gasped, as in a proper hand on mouth take-my-breath-away kind of gasp. On further inspection it transpired this estate was inspiration for many of Jane Austin's novels and visited by Kind Charles I & Queen Victoria...just another day in the English countryside. Unfortunately Will had fallen asleep in the car so I'm heading back tomorrow packing a camera. Bring. It. On.
Righty ho - Willis is packing a sad of the worst variety so toodle pip for now.
